Frank Herbert Harrison

YARMOUTH – Frank Herbert Harrison, 90, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on June 20, 2024. Frank was a kind and generous man, a loving husband, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a man dedicated to making the lives of those that were fortunate enough to know him better, and he will be both well remembered and very missed.

Frank was born in Gorham on June 6, 1934, and was a member of the class of 1952 at Westbrook High School, playing a fierce game of football and developing lifelong friendships that he always cherished. Following high school, he went to Aurora College (where he continued excelling in the sport he loved) and then transferred to Gorham State Teachers College where he met the love of his life, Connie Hanson.

Frank and Connie, married for 65 years, both pursued careers in public education, beginning in the Portland public school system. They also raised a family of four boys, Michael, Peter, Scott, and James, and a daughter, Margaret. Frank and Connie’s trust in one another, combined with their incredible work ethic, shared faith, and, above all, their dedication to family, have provided generations with many blessings and wonderful memories for their family, from Sebago Lake to Port Clyde.

After marrying Connie, Frank earned a master’s degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Administration from the University of Maine and Penn State. Frank’s hard work and firm commitment to his community earned his colleagues’ respect, leading to his role as superintendent of Yarmouth schools in 1966 – a role he held for the next 25 years. In honor of his extraordinary service to the youth of Yarmouth, the community named their newly constructed middle school the “Frank H. Harrison Middle School” in 1991.

Following Frank’s retirement from public education, he and Connie built a home in Englewood, Fla., where they developed close friendships with other snowbirds during the cold Maine winters (yet returned to Yarmouth each year to celebrate the summers with family and friends). Frank enjoyed playing golf, visiting the YMCAs in both Florida and Maine and serving as a member of the Masons and Lions Club.

Frank was predeceased by his loving wife, Connie, in 2020; brothers Arthur and Wendell, and sisters Barbara and Marjorie.

He is survived by his sons (and their partners) Michael (Trish), Peter (Janet), Scott (Lisa), and James (Monty), his daughter, Margaret (Colin); his grandchildren, Joseph (Adrianne), Emily (Jamie), Adam, Jordana, Margaret, Olivia (Mike), Kayla, Julia, Sophia, Gabriel, Eben, Anne, Eavan, Mairen, and Eliza; and his great-grandchildren, Maia, William, Avery, Andrew, and Zander.

Special thanks to Friends In-Home Care for their unwavering support and care.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9 at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane in Yarmouth. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10 at First Parish Congregational Church, 116 Main St., Yarmouth.
