PORTLAND – Michael Edward Brown, 78, passed away on June 19, 2024, in Portland, the city where he was born, on Aug. 3, 1945. Michael’s life was marked by his profound love for his family and his passion for animals, which he generously shared with his family.

From his early years as a mechanic, becoming a butcher, to owning variety stores with his ex-wife Judy, Michael’s careers were diverse. However, his calling was a machinist, a profession he cherished until his retirement from Knowlton Machine Shop. His work, especially the time spent working alongside his brother, Bruce, brought him much joy and fulfillment.

Beyond his professional life, Mike was an avid enthusiast of the outdoors. He loved boating and fishing with Lonnie, whom he owned a boat with. You could always count on them being out on the boat every weekend. Woodworking was another hobby he loved, especially in his later years. He got so much joy from sharing the items he made with family and friends. His zest for life and his infectious laughter and charm touched all who knew him.

Mike was so very proud of his daughters and his grandchildren. When any of them walked into a room, he would just light up. We could not say goodbye without a big hug and an “I love you.”

Mike leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Jim) Storey, and Tina (Hank) Gagnon. He was a proud grandfather to Jesse (deceased), Christopher, Nikolle, Benjamin and Mykenzy.

He was preceded in death, by his parents Charlie and Eva Brown; his siblings Lois, Dora Jean and Bruce.

There will be a celebration of life on his birthday, Aug. 3, at 42 Middle Rd., Cumberland from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mike’s charm, sense of humor and laughter will be dearly missed but will forever resonate in the hearts of those who loved him.

In Mike’s memory,

the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society, honoring his love for animals.
