Old Orchard Beach voters approved a $9.8 million sewer bond to complete upgrades to the town’s wastewater treatment facility and pump station last week.

The bond was approved with 816 votes in favor and 148 against.

Led by consulting firm Woodard and Curran, the project will address critical issues such as code, safety, capacity, structural integrity, permit compliance, energy savings, and useful life issues.

Upgrades to the facility prepares the town for “resilience,” Client Strategist Brent Bridges said.

Also in Old Orchard Beach, voters approved a $16.9 million school budget, with 767 votes in favor and 198 against.

The FY 25 budget is 4% increase over last year; a primary driving factor was teacher and staff salaries and benefits.
