The Town of Kennebunkport recently announced the appointment of Chris Simeoni as its new police chief. Following a comprehensive selection process, Simeoni  was chosen as the best candidate for the job.

A dedicated public servant with extensive experience in both law enforcement and public works, Simeoni’s career in law enforcement began in 1997 in Kennebunkport.

Starting as a reserve officer, he quickly demonstrated his commitment to public safety and community service, and became a police officer in 1998.

Simeoni spent the next two decades serving as senior patrol sergeant, and continued to display exceptional leadership and strong dedication to the community.

He has managed large public events, handled complex investigations, and implemented key policies and procedures to enhance the department’s effectiveness and safety standards.

“We are thrilled to have Chris Simeoni take on the role of police chief,” Town Manager Laurie Smith said. “His extensive experience in law enforcement, coupled with his strong leadership in public works, makes him uniquely qualified to lead our police department.”

As a lifelong resident of Kennebunkport, Simeoni said the community means a great deal to him.

“I am deeply honored to be appointed as the next police chief of Kennebunkport,” Simeoni said.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Simeoni has also served as the director of Kennebunkport Public Works since 2021. In this role, he has successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets and capital projects.

Simeoni holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and an associate degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine. He is also certified as an active law enforcement officer by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

“I am committed to working alongside our dedicated officers to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents,” Simeoni said. “I look forward to building on the strong foundation established by my predecessors and continuing to advance our department’s mission.”

Simeoni replaces Craig Sanford, who served as police chief for 13 years. He will officially assume his role on July 1.
