CASCO – It’s with great sadness we announce that Christine A. Sweetser died on March 14, 2024, after years of declining health.

She was born on Dec. 7, 1943, to Doris (Gipson) and Everett Peterson Sr. Growing up in Portland she was a 1962 graduate of Portland High School. She was head cheerleader and a member of the Theta Nu Delta sorority.

In December of 1963, she married Carl B. Sweetser and went on to have two children, Cheryl and Craig. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Chris began her career at Loring, Short, and Harmon, went on to work at Maine Medical Center, and co-owned the Roger Paul Jordon Studio in Portland, as well as the Gainsboro Studio in Salem, Mass. She loved helping everyone she encountered and never knew a stranger.

For many years, Chris and Carl vacationed throughout the world, snorkeling and enjoying the beach. She loved her cottage on Highland Lake in Windham, as well as spending time with family and friends. She hosted a 4th of July celebration every year for all to enjoy.

Being a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother “Nunnie”, sister, aunt, and friend was her passion in life. Starting at a very young age by caring for her siblings, she devoted herself to helping others.

She is survived by her husband Carl; her daughter, Cheryl Giorgio (Bill), her son, Craig Sweetser (Sandra); her granddaughters Lydia, Grace, and Leela Sweetser, Sarah Giorgio, and Chrystina Koiner (Christopher), and grandson, Nathan Sweetser. Also surviving are her two sisters, Rosetta Symonds, with whom she made her home, and Virginia Barfield of Mobile, Ala.

Christine was predeceased by her parents; brothers Everett (Pete) and his wife Diane, Ronald W., sister, Elaine M. Quatrano; and nephew Stephen Andrews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Highland Lake in Windham.
