Maria Pilar “Pili” MacVane

SOUTH PORTLAND / CUMBERLAND – We are sad to announce that Maria Pilar “Pili” MacVane, 97, died Saturday June, 1, 2024 at Pinnacle at South Portland.

She was born in Madrid, Spain on April 5, 1927 to Pedro and Pilar Ramos, the eldest of her four siblings. Even after living through the horrors of the Spanish Civil War, Mom chose love, hope, kindness, and peace in all aspects of her life. We all will miss her nurturing and faithful soul.

On June, 1, 1963, Pili married Donald K. MacVane, and settled in Cumberland in 1971 after his retirement from the Air Force. They called each other “Babe” and “Mac”. Together, they made home a place of unconditional love and a place to recharge the soul. The joy she had with family and friends meant so much to Mom.

Her talents as a seamstress filled many homes with style and warmth with the curtains and draperies she lovingly made for

interior decorators. Family get togethers made her glow and were gatherings of joy and happiness that cured many woes, as did her paella. Her faith in God provided strength as her two boys and husband assuredly encumbered her raison d’être.

The family is so thankful for the amazing staff at Pinnacle. The love and support they unconditionally gave to Mom, day in, day out, is awe inspiring and beyond measure. We are also grateful for the hospice care Compassus so lovingly gave.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Mac in 2007; parents; siblings Pepe’ and Angelines; many close in-laws, and dear friends.

Surviving Pili are her siblings Carmen and Pedro; sons Donald Peter MacVane with wife Irene, and James Patrick MacVane with wife Stephenie; grandsons Jason, Peter, Patrick N., Patrick D., and Gabriel; great-grandchildren Madilyn, Maddox, Blake, and Riley; and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service is planned. Arrangements by Lindquist Funeral Home.
