June is Pride Month, and the Kennebunks are celebrating in style with a Pride in the Bunks bash on June 8.

The community festival, located on the River Green at 2 North St. in Kennebunkport, will feature crafts, entertainment, food, and celebration to kick off Pride Month.

Sponsored by local businesses like Old Vines, Bandaloop, Daytrip Society, and the Kennebunkport Resort Collection, Pride in the Bunks highlights the Kennebunks’ dedication to equality and inclusivity.

Local musician Ashlyn Bard, who will perform on June 8, said this will be his first-ever Pride event, and he hopes it will be a positive experience.

“Pride is a reminder that you are not alone and shows you a community you may not have known is there,” Bard told the Post. “Pride is about curiosity, surprises, and learning.”

Throughout the month of June, Pride events will take place all over the towns.

At the end of May, a group of residents participated in painting Pride-themed buoys to show support.

“We are working to make them into a large community art installation that will debut at Pride in the Bunks,” the Chamber of Commerce wrote on Facebook.

An exhibition featuring the bold works of artists Collyer Bowen and Cookie Davis, two local artists who were prolific in both their creative output and involvement with the LGBTQ+ community, will take place at Kennebunk’s Brick Store Museum through August.

On Friday, The Creative Soul will host a Pride Pottery Paint and Sip event where participants will paint their own Pride-themed gnome planters while sipping on a glass of wine.

Also throughout the month, local restaurants Musette and Wandby Landing will offer specialty cocktails with 10% of the proceeds going to the Equality Community Center.
