Photograph collages by artist Mark Pizza will be featured at the first night of the Kennebunk Art Walk this month.

The highly-anticipated downtown Kennebunk Art Walk returns June 14 after a Covid-19 hiatus.

Starting June 14, the Art Walk will take place on Main Street downtown on the second Friday of every month for a night of live music, local artists, food trucks, and drink specials.

Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, the Art Walk is returning for the first time since its pandemic-induced hiatus.

Local artist Mark Pizza, who will feature his work at the first Art Walk this summer, told the Post that he looks forward to meeting people who enjoy his work.

“It’s a good feeling that people resonate with your work enough to come out and see you,” Pizza said. “One time, I had a photo collage of Nubble Light, and (a woman) talked about her whole experience growing up and how that piece brought back memories of family, and that’s exactly what I want to do.”

Originally from Massachusetts, Pizza has been visiting Maine his whole life, and officially decided to move during the pandemic.

As a member of the Chamber, he has been a part of the Kennebunk art community, hosting pop-ups and art walks, for several years.

Art walks give an artist the opportunity to show their work, express their creative process, and expose people to the nuances of art, Pizza said.

“It brings a different perspective,” he said. “Art brings in life, and different opinions.”

Also on June 14, local musician Ashlyn Bard will perform his original music for attendees.

An organizer for Kennebunk events enjoys his music, Bard said, and reached out about a possible performance. Bard jumped at the opportunity.

“Sharing art in Kennebunk is important to those who haven’t been exposed to the arts and may have an unknown passion,” Bard told the Post. “Local artists also need this attention, and not many places in Maine can provide exposure the way the Kennebunk Art Walk can.”

Across downtown, artists will be stationed at places such as 50 Local and the Waterhouse Center throughout the evening.

Some exhibits will even feature themed cocktails, like an Andy Warhol-inspired cocktail at 50 Local, where Pizza will be showing his work.
