The Biddeford Beach Bash returns to celebrate the arrival of summer with an afternoon beach party that is free for all to attend on June 15 from noon to 6 p.m. at the beach at Biddeford Pool.
Hosted by the Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce, the Beach Bash features music, games, food, beverages, and even a dance-off and limbo competition.
Local radio station 99.3 The Wave will be broadcasting live from the beach.
Summer is a special time in Maine, and events like this make it even better, Executive Director of the Biddeford and Saco Chamber of Commerce Jim Labelle said.
“We are excited to bring the community together to enjoy one of the most beautiful parts of our Saco-Biddeford area,” he said.
Throughout the event, core Beach Bash partner Blaze Brewing Company will be selling some of their locally brewed beers and seltzers, along with water and soft drinks.
Several food trucks will be participating in the event as well, including Weeners on Wheels and Kona Ice.
One of the highlights of this year’s bash will be a sandcastle contest, organized by Nick Blunier of Common Roots Studio.
At the first Beach Bash last year, all participants spread out on the beach and created their castles with a flag marking their participation, Blunier told the Courier.
At the end of the day, votes were counted and first through third place winners received Common Roots Studio custom trophies and prizes.
“This year will have a few changes such as ‘celebrity’ judges, and participants will only have one hour to complete their sandcastles,” Blunier said. “We invite all ages to come play in the sand and partake in the competition!”
A new aspect to this year’s Beach Bash is a mobile sauna from Driftless Sauna in Saco. Beachgoers are invited to cool off in the ocean and then warm up in a hot sauna on the beach.
Parking is available but limited in the paid Biddeford parking lot adjacent to the beach; a shuttle courtesy of the Biddeford Recreation Department will transport beachgoers from the University of New England Harold Alfond Forum to the beach and back on a continuous 10-minute cycle throughout the event.
