James N. Varberakis

YARMOUTH – James N. Varberakis “Jimmy V”, 69, a loved husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Born in Volos, Greece, and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., James spent the last 40 years living in Maine.

James had a funny sense of humor, a charming personality and had a way of making people feel comfortable. He loved music of all types and was an exceptional pianist from a very young age. His prized possession was his Nishiki bicycle.

Survived by his wife, Marie Varberakis; sister, Vasso (Owen) Unks; son, Justin (Julie) Varberakis, daughter, Stephenie Varberakis; grandchildren, Paige and Jack Varberakis; nephew, Evan Unks and niece, Nikki (Don) Lefever.

As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the fun, and funny times that James leaves behind. His memory will remain in our hearts through life’s journey with the same humor that he had about life and the world.

A Celebration of Life for James will be held on Friday, July 26, 1 p.m. – 3 p,m, at the Freeport Community Services Building.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in loving memory and honor of James, continuing his legacy.
