Vote against new schools

Saco voters will be deciding on two new schools to be built. Without knowing all of the details, I am concerned about the financial impact on taxes the schools will have on citizens; particularly older and fixed-income people.

A new school is an exciting and curious topic, no doubt, and there are needs and pressures. But to give the students a Taj Mahal, when it will cost people so much they may actually have to leave the city that they love because property taxes will become onerous, is a bridge just a little too far.

It’s true the state will chip in, but that will obviously come out of our pockets, eventually.

Have we exhausted all of the options available? Is there no way we can revamp, remodel, repurpose or expand on some other buildings that are already in place?

Another issue is moving schools further out of town, which will increase busing, also increasing costs.

I ran for the school board and saw the insulated world and the power the school district wields over the town and its citizens. I think it would be wise to discuss this further with citizens.
