The earnest debates about schools, buildings and taxes fail to acknowledge that, as “boomers,” many of us were given new schools every step of the way in the 1950s and ’60s, along with an excellent education, thanks to the unwavering commitment of our parents and grandparents.

Let’s make tax increases affordable to those for whom this is a hardship and make it fair for those who can afford a gradual tax increase to pay it forward (and/or back). The same folks who buy new cars, expensive technology and travel are distressed by a property-tax increase? After living in New Jersey, I think Maine school taxes are fair and good for the future of our communities.

Let us stop second-guessing those who work hard to lead and plan by offering responsible options for our schools. Let us invest in families and our future. Vote “yes” on the Cape Elizabeth school bond!
