The balmy weather is clinging to Maine for one final day before cooler weather returns.

The National Weather Service says the temperature climbed to 74 degrees on Tuesday in Caribou, breaking the old record for the date of 71 degrees, set back in 1956.

Richard Norton from the weather office said Maine continues to enjoy warm weather in advance of a front that will arrive later Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures and some rain.

The entire state enjoyed temperatures in the upper 60s and lower 70s on Tuesday.

The 74-degree reading in Caribou was more than 20 degrees above the normal high for October.
