GLENWOOD — Authorities say rough waters swamped a small boat on a Maine Lake, pitching two Connecticut men into the choppy water, including one who drowned.
Lt. Thomas Ward of the Maine Warden Service says the accident happened about 3:30 Friday afternoon on remote Wytopitlock Lake in Glenwood when a 12-foot aluminum boat was hit by rough water and capsized.
The survivor swam 100 feet to shore; he did not need medical attention. The boat carried life jackets but neither man wore one. Ward urges boaters to put the jackets on before they go out, especially when the water turns colder.
The victim was found about 2 hours after the boat capsized in 7 feet of water.
Their identities won’t be released until their families are notified.
