A Lewiston man was indicted by an Androscoggin County grand jury Thursday on a charge of murder in connection with the hit-and-run death last month of his estranged fiancée, who was four months pregnant.

Evaristo De Deus, 33, is being held without bail pending an arraignment Wednesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court.

Deus is charged with driving his sport utility vehicle into Laudrinha Kubeloso as she walked home from her adult education class on Sept. 23.

He was arrested at JFK International Airport in New York as he boarded a flight for Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

A grand jury, which rose Thursday, indicted him on charges of intentional and knowing murder and depraved indifference murder.

Justice MaryGay Kennedy will hear the case.

His attorney says Deus will enter a plea of not guilty.

A judge ordered Deus held without bail during a brief appearance in an Androscoggin County court on Sept. 26.

Deus and Kubeloso were recent asylum seekers from Angola.
