BAR HARBOR – Officials say the lone occupant escaped injury when a 50-foot charter fishing boat sank off Acadia National Park.

Bar Harbor Harbormaster Charlie Phippen told WNSX-FM that the Tiger Shark began taking on water late Tuesday morning after a plank in the hull let go.

He says the only occupant escaped to another vessel before the Tiger Shark capsized about a half-mile from Thunder Hole.

Phippen said the boat is part of the Downeast Windjammer fleet owned by Steven Pagels and was used for charter day cruises.

The Coast Guard is on the scene to assist to try to recover the vessel.
