Coastal Enterprises Inc., the nonprofit community development corporation headquartered in Wiscasset, announced several new hires, promotions and awards recently.
In a news release, the company said Brad Bennett was hired as IT assistant; Rose Creps was hired as agriculture business specialist with CEI’s Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program; Ray Farrell was hired as technical services network administrator; Jody Gould was hired as loan administrator for CEI Lending; Corenna Howard was promoted to senior administrative officer; Sarah Matel was hired as senior credit officer; and Cole Palmer was hired as loan and investment officer.
Also, Daniel Wallace, CEI’s program developer for sustainable agriculture, was selected by the Opportunity Finance Network and the Citi Foundation as one of 50 Community Development Financial Institution professionals to take part in the Citi Leadership Program for Opportunity Finance.
The Wiscasset-based nonprofit organization is poised to consolidate operations from Portland and Wiscasset in Brunswick in 2014.
Principals of the organization signed a purchaseand sale agreement in August to acquire two town buildings on Federal Street for a reported $300,000: 28 Federal St., and the adjacent Parks and Recreation building, at 30 Federal St.
CEI, currently housed in three buildings on Water Street in Wiscasset, plans to relocate its state headquarters and about 60 employees to Brunswick’s downtown by 2015.
When — and if — the sale of both buildings is finalized, they will be razed and replaced with a modern, efficient structure, said John Egan, CEI’s director of housing.
Brunswick will transfer Town Hall and the Recreation Center to Brunswick Development Corp., a nonprofit development corporation, which will handle the sale of the properties to CEI.
Town Manager Gary Brown has said the town will receive $25,000 from the expected sale while BDC will pocket $275,000.
The town’s recreation department has already moved to Brunswick Landing while town offices will relocate to the McLellan Building on Union Street.
CEI has said its move to Brunswick would bring 50 to 60 employees from the Portland and Wiscasset offices.
