BRUNSWICK — Edward Little pitcher Sarah Hammond struck out 10 in her first varsity start as Edward Little cruised to a 12-1 KVAC victory over Brunswick on Friday.

The Red Eddies (6-3) were strong on offense, scoring six runs in the second inning. Hannah Smith collected two hits, three RBIs and a pair of runs.

Edward Little plated six runs in the top of the second inning and added three more runs in the third.

Senior Tami Burgess, making her first varsity start on the mound for Brunswick, held Edward Little scoreless through the next three innings while retiring six batters in a row at one point.

Brooke Barter, Ashley Howe and Julia Carpenter were defensive standouts for the Dragons.

“We’ve had some unfortunate developments in recent games,” said Brunswick coach Hugh Dwyer. “But, the girls decided after the opening innings that they were going to show Edward Little that they were a determined.”

Brunswick (0-9) was led offensively by Mary Sasso, Howe and Emily Girardin, each with a single. Allie Eck plated the lone Dragon run in the bottom of the seventh inning,

The host Cobras scored four runs in the sixth inning for a come-from-behind Mountain Valley Conference win over 3-7 Lisbon on Friday in North Anson.

Kilee Nile and Jessica Vaillancourt each had two hits for Carrabec (5-4). Baylee Atwood had a key three-run double, while Mickayla Willette and Vaillancourt combined on the mound for six strikeouts and eight walks.

Molly Nicholson had three hits for Lisbon, while Taylor Plourde chipped in an RBI double. Kailyn Hill went the distance for the Greyhounds with four strikeouts and eight walks.

WISCASSET 6

DIRIGO 7

Freshman Brittany Greig led the charge in a balanced offense, with three hits and an RBI, as Dirigo pulled away with a Mountain Valley Conference victory over Wiscasset on Friday.

Megan Bradbury knocked in three runs for the Cougars (5-3), while a Ellie Wainwright double drove in two. Wainright and Katelyn Olsen secured the win pitching for Dirigo, allowing just five hits while striking out six.

Wiscasset’s Briana Goud kept things close with two hits and two runs scored. Abby Dunn took the pitching loss for the Wolverines (1-9, scheduled to host Monmouth today).

FREEPORT 3

The host Falcons scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip Traip (3-5) Friday in Western Maine Conference action.

Lauren Cormier scored the winning run for Freeport, now 2-7 and scheduled to host Kennebunk today.

Cormier singled in the seventh, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.

Vanessa Lee took the mound win as she tossed a five-hitter.

MT. ARARAT 2

Cony scored five runs in the sixth inning to pull away in KVAC play on Friday.

Arika Brochu tossed a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks, while the Eagles’ Alana Weaver gave up a dozen hits with a strikeout and three walks.

Trailing 2-0, Mt. Ararat tacked on two runs in the fourth. With two outs, Devon Hutchins singled, Sara Lamb walked and Kate Guerin smacked a two-run triple.

Hannah Reis was a defensive standout in center field for the Eagles with five putouts, while left fielder Piper Ingle also stood out for 2-7 Mt. Ararat, scheduled to visit Skowhegan today.

For 9-1 Cony, Kassidy Turgeon had two singles and a double, Olivia Deeves three singles, and Dalaney Keithley and Alyssa Dennett two hits each.

In the sixth,Turgeon had an RBI double and Maggie Russell a run-scoring single.
