RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Undrafted rookie Brock Coyle is expected to start at middle linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks this week against Oakland.

Seattle linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. said Wednesday the job was Coyle’s “to lose,” but the coaching staff could change its mind before Sunday. Coyle’s representatives first tweeted congratulations about their client getting his first start.

Seattle has been without starting middle linebacker Bobby Wagner since he suffered a toe injury against Dallas. K.J. Wright moved from the outside to the middle for the past two games against St. Louis and Carolina.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas defensive tackle Josh Brent has returned to the practice field for the first time since his drunken driving crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown in 2012.

Brent did light work on the side Wednesday, the first day he was eligible to practice because of NFL restrictions related to his 10-game suspension over an intoxication manslaughter conviction in January.

The first possible game for Brent is Nov. 23 at the New York Giants, but coach Jason Garrett hasn’t said when Brent might be ready to play.

Brent’s last game was Dec. 2, 2012, against Philadelphia, six days before the fatal crash in the Dallas suburb of Irving. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail after a 10-year prison term was suspended.

Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have signed cornerback Mike Harris off the Detroit Lions’ practice squad and placed middle linebacker Jon Beason on injured reserve.

The Giants announced the move on Wednesday, two days after saying that Beason would need season-ending surgery on his foot.

Harris spent the 2012-13 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, playing in 31 games with seven starts.

The Giants have lost cornerbacks Walter Thurmond (pectoral) and Trumaine McBride (thumb) to season-ending injuries. Starter Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is battling back and hamstring injuries heading into Monday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Dolphins

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Dan Marino has lately been passing along advice, and Ryan Tannehill is happy to be the receiver.

Tannehill says he has been getting helpful tips at the Miami Dolphins’ complex from Marino, who was hired in August as a special adviser to team owner Stephen Ross.

Marino, who attended Wednesday’s practice, was the most prolific passer in NFL history when he retired following the 1999 season. The Dolphins haven’t publicly defined his role, but Tannehill said he and the Pro Football Hall of Famer have watched film together two or three times.
