AUGUSTA — Two well-known Cape Elizabeth attorneys are competing for the Democratic Party’s nomination for the Maine House District 30 seat.
Mary Ann Lynch, the longtime spokeswoman for the Maine Judicial Branch, and Anne Carney, a former president of the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust, have announced they will run for the seat being vacated by Rep. Kim Monaghan, also a Democrat. Monaghan, who has served four consecutive two-year terms, cannot seek re-election because of Maine’s term limits law.
Lynch, a nine-year veteran of the court system, resigned from her position to run for the Legislature. She has previously served three terms on the Cape Elizabeth Town Council, where she supported efforts to build trails and protect open space and also backed the renovation of the Cape Elizabeth High School and a new kindergarten wing, according to a media release.
Lynch also previously worked on the staff of Democratic Gov. Joseph E. Brennan and was in private practice in the Portland law firm Verrill Dana. She has lived in Cape Elizabeth for 34 years with her husband, Gregg Ginn, and has three sons.
Carney also has a long resume of volunteer and community service. She has served on the town’s board of appeals, library board and the Two Lights Road Bicycle Path Committee, and has been active both coaching and supporting local youth sports, including swimming and lacrosse, according to her campaign website. In 2016, Carney received the Pine Tree Legal Services award for pro bono services.
Primary elections will be held June 12. So far, no Republicans or other candidates have registered to run in House District 30, which represents part of Cape Elizabeth.
