Mary Virginia Keegan
YARMOUTH – Mary Virginia Keegan, known to everyone as “Ginny”, passed away on June 9, 2026. She was born on Feb. 25, 1938, in Los Angeles, Calif., to the late Mary Gertrude Sullivan and William M. Bell. She later made her home in Yarmouth, Maine.
She lived a life filled with creativity, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. Whether she was a grandmother, realtor, author, artist, or teacher, Ginny poured her heart into everything she did and had a remarkable way of making others feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
A gifted watercolor artist, Ginny spent countless hours painting, finding joy and peace with a brush in her hand. Her love of creativity was matched only by her lifelong curiosity and spiritual journey. In her later years, she found great comfort in the practice of Buddhism, spending much of her time meditating and embracing a life centered on mindfulness, kindness, and gratitude.
Ginny attended St. John’s Cathedral in Milwaukee, Wis., Class of 1955, and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She had a natural empathy for others, which was reflected in her work as a realtor and through her involvement with the Center for Grieving Children, where she helped people through difficult moments. She also loved leading proprioceptive writing workshops, helping others find and express their inner thoughts.
More than any title or accomplishment, Ginny’s greatest joy was her family. She was well known throughout Yarmouth not only for raising her four children but also for helping raise and adore her grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She loved fiercely, celebrated every milestone, and created a home where everyone knew they belonged. She found happiness in gardening, traveling, and the simple moments spent with those she loved most.
Ginny leaves behind a family forever shaped by her love, her wisdom, her creativity, and her gentle spirit.
She is survived by her children, Maureen E. Keegan, Charles F. Keegan, Kerry A. Keegan, and Kathleen M. Keegan; her grandchildren, Cletus Blum, Charles Samuel Keegan, Oliver Blum, Eric Schwarm, Patrick Blum, Eliza Keegan, Kevin Schwarm, and Jade Bermudez; her great-grandchildren, Francis Wislander Blum, Theodore Wislander Blum, and Axel Blum; and her sisters Judith Walczak and Barbara Badura.
Ginny was predeceased by her youngest sister Kathryn Michaels.
A Celebration of Life will be held in July 2026. Please contact the family for details if you wish to attend.
Ginny will be remembered for her strong will, her positive impact on others, and, not least, for strolling down Main Street in Yarmouth with her little red walker. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and in the artwork that continues to hang on the walls of those who loved her.
