While the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth will go on over the Harris loss, the more salient question is: how did we elect a known felon and, better yet, someone who disrespected the Constitution by trying? Yes, eggs are expensive and the immigration situation has to be dealt with, but have we come to a point that total disregard for the law of the land is our moral guide for the future at all costs. Our forefathers are rolling in their graves.
Had we this kind of moral fiber and disregard for laws and justice 250 years ago, the Union Jack would still be flying over what we call America. Ben Franklin, upon being asked if we had a monarchy or a republic, responded: “A republic, if you can keep it.” We will be asking this question as we go through the next four years.
