Philip E. Toussaint, 79, resident of West Newfield, passed away peacefully on Dec. 19, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on May 29, 1944, son of the late Raoul and Rita (Thibodeau) Toussaint.

Affectionately know as Phil or PT, he received his education in Biddeford schools and explored multiple career paths. Notably, he worked in the manufacturing industry, drove a taxi, and owned a successful cleaning company. His favorite moto, “Work smart, not hard” lead to many creative ventures. He had a quiet demeanor, yet beneath that gentle exterior lay a playful spirit that was seen through his mischievous smile. Phil’s unwavering loyalty to his family serves as a great reminder that sometimes the quietest voices hold the most profound love.

He had a deep affection for animals, especially his beloved Pomeranian, Sunshine. She remained by his side during difficult moments, right up to his final days. Their bond was a testament to love and resilience, providing comfort in times of need.

Philip was preceded in death by his siblings, Gerald, Harold, Roger, Donald, Richard Toussaint, Carol Lacroix and Rona Potvin.

Philip is survived by: his daughter, Laura Cluff and granddaughter, Ashleigh Cluff of Kennebunk; brother, Ronnie Toussaint and his wife Joan of Arundel; sister in-law, Mae Toussaint of Old Orchard Beach; and many nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of Phil’s life was held at at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Biddeford. If you would like to honor his memory, please make a donation to any Alzheimer Association of your choice or the Kennebunk Animal Welfare Society.
