Kate Richardson tipped in a pass from Poppy Lambert 1:40 into the fourth quarter and third-seeded Maine defeated the six-seeded California-Davis 4-3 in an America East tournament quarterfinal in Albany, New York.
Lambert, Olivia Geniti and Micaela Grajales also scored or the Black Bears (11-8), who will play a semifinal against second-seeded New Hampshire at 11 a.m. on Friday. The Aggies finish at 4-13.
VERMONT STATE-CASTLETON 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Emilee Higgins scored with 4:40 left as top-seeded Vermont State-Castleton eliminated No. 5 Southern Maine in the semifinals of the Little East Conference field hockey tournament in Castleton, Vermont.
Emma Samson scored for Southern Maine (7-14) in the first quarter, and Arianna Speizio tied it in the third for Castleton (16-4). Eleanor Folsom made six saves for USM.

MAINE 2, UMASS LOWELL 0: Kayla Kraemer and former Windham High standout Abbey Thornton scored as defending conference champion Maine beat UMass Lowell, 2-0, in an America East semifinal in Orono.
Kraemer scored just 4:51 into the game, with Lara Kirkby assisting for Maine (12-1-3). Thornton, set up by Jordane Pinette, scored in the 68th minute.
Grace Wilson made one save for the shutout. Taylor Burgess made eight stops for UMass Lowell (6-10-3).
SOUTHERN MAINE 2, VERMONT STATE-CASTLETON 0: Second-half goals by Britney Hill and Cierra Hills powered University of Southern Maine to a win over Vermont State Castleton in the semifinals of the Little East Conference tournament.
Makyla Magid and Catriona Gould each had assists for USM (14-2-3) and Hunter Stonebraker made two saves in goal. The top-seeded Huskies play No. 3 Western Connecticut on Saturday for the conference title.
Emma Ezzo had nine saves for the No. 5 Spartans (9-11-1).
