Celebrate the holidays this year with City Theater. The theater will present the Christmas play “Holiday Inn,” a recent Broadway musical based on the hit 1942 film that starred Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.
This new musical, with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and book by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge, features almost two dozen Irving Berlin songs including “White Christmas,” “Easter Parade,” “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” “Shaking the Blues Away,” “Cheek to Cheek” and “Heatwave.” With humor, tap dancing, elaborate costumes, and a great cast, don’t miss the Maine premiere of this holiday classic. “Holiday Inn” runs Dec. 6-22.
The musical tells the story of Jim, who leaves the bright lights of show business behind to settle down on his farmhouse in Connecticut with his dance partner, Lila Dixon. This is not quite what the success-driven Lila has in mind, so she heads off to continue the act with Jim’s best friend, Ted. Jim quickly discovers life isn’t the same without a bit of song and dance. Jim’s luck takes a spectacular turn when he meets Linda, a spirited schoolteacher with talent to spare. Together they turn the farmhouse into a fabulous inn with dazzling performances to celebrate each holiday, from Thanksgiving to the Fourth of July. But when Ted tries to lure Linda away to be his new dance partner in Hollywood, will Jim be able to salvage his latest chance at love?
The cast includes: Derek Kingsley (Jim), Colleen Katana (Linda), Jennine Cannizzo (Louise), Kathryn Kellogg (Lila Dixon), Keating Babcock (Ted) and Peter Salsbury (Danny), with Oliver Caron, David Van Duyne, Abram Dwyer, Jackie Grigg, Ellie Joseph, Bri Lacy, Bella Mok, Corey Osborne, Mariah Peric, Kate Whalen, and Owen White.
