Vote “no” on Question 5 regarding changing the state flag. The proposed new flag of a pine tree and a star is too much like the 1776 Pine Tree Flag. That flag was flown by liberty activists and enthusiasts of the American Revolution and was used in one of the first acts of resistance by American colonists to British royalty’s authority. The Pine Tree Flag was also carried by some of the insurrectionists on Jan. 6, 2021.
By voting “no” on Question 5, we shall be keeping the present flag, which is much more representative of Maine as it was in 1820 when Maine became a state.
