GRAY – Arnold “Arnie” N. Harmon, 84, passed unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024. He was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Stow, the son of Charles Harmon and Eleanor A. (Bryant) Harmon.
Arnold attended grade school in Lovell, before graduating from Fryeburg Academy in 1958, where he played football, basketball and baseball. While in school, he enjoyed spending his summers working as a caddie at Kezar Lake Golf Course in Lovell.
After graduating, he worked for CN Brown and LC Andrews and later for Wigon Office Supply in Portland, retiring from Scott Paper in Westbrook in 1994.
In August 1963, Arnold married the love of his life, Susan Elizabeth Dennison. Together they lived in Portland for eight years, moving to Windham in 1971. In 2003 they moved to Otisfield, buying an old farmhouse that was built in 1800 with 37 acres. He and Susan loved being out in the country and having space. In 2018, after the farmhouse became too much to maintain, they made their final move to Gray.
Arnold loved sports, whether playing baseball, football, golf (which he learned from caddying) or cheering on his beloved New England sports teams, and loved coaching high school baseball for his younger son. He also loved traveling, playing cards (cribbage and poker) and spending time with his friends at the local golf courses. Most of all he loved being with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Susan “Sue” Harmon.
Arnold is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Wilson and her husband, Douglas, of Casco, sons Frederick Harmon of Gray and Steven Harmon and his wife, Lindsay, of Hubbardston, Mass.; five grandchildren, Morgan Wilbur and her husband, Alexander, of Casco, Trinity Harmon of Gray, Colin, Adelaide and Sawyer Harmon, all of Hubbardston, Mass.; and two great-grandchildren, Edward and Eli Wilbur, both of Casco.
