Westbrook police are seeking help to identify the person who fired a series of gunshots in a residential neighborhood Friday night.

Officers believe an individual fired several rounds into the air about 11:30 p.m. while walking in the area of Spring, Brackett and East Valentine streets, police said in a statement.

Officers searched the area extensively with help from a Portland police canine team, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, the statement said.

“We are seeking the public’s help in obtaining video of the suspect,” police said. “If anyone observes shell casings, please do not touch them.”

Instead, call the department at 207-854-0644 so an officer can collect and process the casings as evidence, police said.

Any residents who have outdoor camera footage showing someone firing a gun between 11:15 p.m. and midnight should contact Officer Carlos Gonzalez at cgonzalez@westbrook.me.us or call the department and leave a voicemail at ext. 2533.
