Kelly O’Guinn caught a short touchdown pass in the first quarter and ran for the eventual winning TD late in the third quarter as Biddeford earned its first win of the season, beating Gorham 21-14 in a Class B South game Friday night at Biddeford’s Waterhouse Field.
A 4-yard pass from Travis Edgerton to O’Guinn accounted for the only touchdown in the first half as Biddeford (1-2) went to the break with a 7-0 lead.
Edgerton extended the lead with a 9-yard run early in the third quarter. Gorham (0-3) answered with a long drive that ended with a 5-yard run by Camden Martell, but then O’Guinn’s 1-yard plunge made it 21-6.
Gorham quarterback Garrett Poulin scored the final TD on a 3-yard run with about 2 minute remaining. Biddeford was able to run out the clock from there.
WELLS 54, LISBON 6: Dom Buxton scored four touchdowns in the first half as the Warriors (3-0) rolled past the Greyhounds (1-2) in Wells.
Buxton reached the end zone on runs of 3, 10 and 64 yards, then scored on a 52-yard hook-and-lateral with 2 seconds left in the half after Riley Murphy caught a short pass from Cal Moody.
Wells also scored on the final play of the first quarter – a 5-yard run by Eli Potter. Nate DeMauro, Sabin Piatek and Robert Stevens each added a TD run.
Lisbon avoided a shutout when Carson Savoy broke free for a 77-yard run in the fourth quarter.
MASSABESIC 14, SANFORD 0: Cam Bradbury connected with Cam Bouchard for a 25-yard touchdown on third-and-20 late in the first half, then rushed for a touchdown late in the third quarter as the Mustangs (3-0) beat the Spartans (1-2) in Sanford.
Sanford had a fourth-quarter drive stopped by a Nolan Pomerleau interception for Massabesic.
SOUTH PORTLAND 42, OXFORD HILLS 7: Easton Healy rushed for two touchdowns, including the go-ahead TD with 17.6 seconds remaining in the first half, and the Red Riots (3-0) kept their unbeaten record intact by defeating the winless Vikings (0-3) in Paris.
South Portland took advantage of a good break in the first quarter, gaining possession after a Red Riots punt hit the foot of an Oxford Hills player. Alex Horton eventually scored on a 25-yard run.
Oxford Hills tied the game in the second quarter on an 11-yard pass from Carter Wyman to Cameron Pulkkinen. The score was set up by a long pass from Wyman to Brady Delamater.
The Red Riots regained the lead just before halftime, however, when Healy found the end zone from the 4.
South Portland then started the second half with a long drive that Healy ended with a 17-yard run.
Connor Gerard added two short TD runs in the fourth quarter, and Christopher Salamone ripped off a 47-yard scoring run.
NOBLE 38, SCARBOROUGH 0: Jamier Rose passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Knights (3-0) past the Red Storm (1-2) at Scarborough.
After a scoreless first quarter, Rose passed 18 yards to Tommy Gagnon and 10 yards to Kevin Chandler for second-quarter TDs. Kaleb Dustin’s 23-yard field goal as the half ended gave the Knights a 17-0 lead.
Rose ran 28 yards for a score and connected with Chandler for a 16-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter before Gagnon added a 10-yard TD run in the fourth.
Dustin converted all five of his point-after kicks to go with his field goal.
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 34, CAPE ELIZABETH 8: William Campbell threw two touchdown passes, Malik Sow rushed for two scores, and the Raiders (3-0) rolled past the Capers (1-2) in Fryeburg.
Fryeburg took control early, sparked by a 70-yard pass from Campbell to Ty Boone. A 23-yard TD run by Sow and a 48-yard run by Freddie Francis made it 20-0 after one quarter.
Sow extended the lead with a 17-yard run in the second quarter. Jagger Helwig caught a 13-yard pass from Campbell in the third.
Cape’s touchdown as a 36-yard pass from Brady Inman to Aidan Connolly in the fourth.
GREELY 42, STEARNS 40: The Rangers (2-1) trailed 40-22 with 10 minutes to play but scored the final 20 points to take down the Minutemen (2-1) in Millinocket.
Luke Piper connected with Wes Piper for an 86-yard touchdown pass that cut Greely’s deficit to 40-28. Then Ben Kyles returned a punt for a TD and Andrew Padgett ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 40-36.
Greely got the ball back and Luke and Wes Piper hooked up for another touchdown to put the Rangers ahead, 42-40, with less than two minutes remaining. The Rangers sealed the victory with an interception at the 4-yard line.
BOYS’ SOCCER
SOUTH PORTLAND 5, BONNY EAGLE 2: Gedeao Buanza scored three goals for the Red Riots (2-3) as they defeated the Scots (0-6) in South Portland.
Oliver Linscott and Christiano Jundo also scored.
Sam Caldwell and Peyton Lee were the goal scorers for Bonny Eagle.
South Portland keeper Michael Zaccaria stopped four shots, while Asa Proctor recorded nine saves for the Scots.
FIELD HOCKEY
CHEVERUS 3, SANFORD 0: After being held scoreless in the first half for the first time this season, the Stags (5-0) scored three second-half goals to secure a win over the Spartans (3-1) in Portland.
Zoey Radford broke the tie 32 seconds into the third quarter, then Sydney Brunelle and Caroline Rousseau added fourth-quarter goals as the Stags extended their winning streak to 23.
Ellie Skolnekovich made six saves for the Stags. Megan Sheppard stopped 11 shots for Sanford.
SOUTH PORTLAND/WESTBROOK 4, MARSHWOOD 2: Maeve Tardif scored the go-ahead goal with 3:01 left in the first half, lifting the Red Riots (2-2) over the Hawks (1-4) at South Portland.
It was 2-2 after the first quarter, with Jane Phillips accounting for both South Portland/Westbrook goals. Laurali Shisler and Isabel Rothwell countered for Marshwood.
The Red Riots padded their lead midway through the third quarter when Lily Dorrington converted a pass from Mackenzie Hall.
WINDHAM 3, KENNEBUNK 0: Zocia LaWind opened the scoring with an assist from Leah Dunnam in the first quarter, and the Eagles (3-1) shut out the Rams (1-6) in Windham.
Abby Trainor chipped with a goal and an assist, Grace Joly also scored, and Zoe Dries was credited with an assist.
Olivia McPherson made two saves for the shutout. Kennebunk’s Faith Flynn stopped six shots.
