John C. Merriman Jr.

GORHAM – John C. Merriman Jr., 73, from Gorham, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, in the presence of family and friends. John was born on Nov. 11, 1950, in Portland, to John C. Merriman Sr. and Dorothy Merriman (Jordan) as one of eight children. John lived in South Portland as a young child before moving to Gorham and graduating from Gorham High School in 1969.

John was an electrician all of his life and became self-employed at only 27 years of age. He was working as an electrician up until his passing. John believed strongly in treating his customers fairly and prided himself on all the repeat business he had earned over the years. When people had an electrical emergency, John would drop everything and make sure they were taken care of. John treated everyone with kindness and made friends everywhere he went. His favorite part of the day was going to 14 Main restaurant every morning and catching up with all of his friends from Gorham before work. John enjoyed spending time with friends and family, tinkering with his various vehicles, sailing and boating, but most of all, helping others with various projects or their times of need.

John is survived by his son John (Amanda), daughter Leigh, grandchildren Zachary, Conner, Sydney, and Amelia, brother Michael (Gail), sisters, Nancy Warren, Holly Pride (Jeff), and Elizabeth Doody (Vinal), and his former wife Brenda Keene. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Donald, Dana, and Robert as well as his parents.

There will be a celebration of life on August 15, from 4-7 p.m., at Dolby Blais & Segee 76 State Street Gorham.
