Hats off to Orlando E. Delogu and his well-written and informative essay on the Supreme Court and how it is constructed and of its importance (“The Supreme Court is a law unto itself,” June 26).

I was not aware of the political history of the pendulum swings and how they affect social issues, but most impressive to me was Mr. Delogu’s stance on preserving our Supreme Court and how integral it is to our Constitution – ergo, stop tampering with it and its composition. Personally, I find many ideologies today unrealistic and simply au courant, or better yet, today’s fashion, tomorrow’s trash.

The Supreme Court was constructed in 1789, and regardless of the personalities of its nine members, especially a few today, as the highest court in America, it has served us well. We are currently in a state of flux and need to protect those institutions that hold us together while we still have a strong democracy.
