Chester “Chet” Adams

CUMBERLAND – Chester “Chet” Adams, 81, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024 with family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 9, 1942, the son of the late Merle and Blanche Adams.

Chet attended Auburn schools, achieved being an Eagle Scout and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1960. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was appointed to the secret branch of the Security Service. There he served in Berlin Germany and one year in Alaska. It was in Berlin, where he met the love of his life, Karin (who never saw him in uniform). They were joyfully married for nearly 60 years.

After faithfully serving our country, Chet enrolled in Husson College and graduated in 1969, earning a degree in Accounting. He was then recruited to work for Peat Marwick, a national accounting firm. It was there where he earned his CPA license in 1971. He later joined Sanborns Motor Express as Manager of Corporate Accounting for 15 years. After working for Sanborns, Chet was asked to become a partner of North Star Communications in Cumberland. He also dabbled in real estate investing.

Chet and his family spent their summers on Sebago Lake, first purchasing a camp and years later a beautiful home. He loved sharing the lake with his friends and family, entertaining and grilling food for all. His generosity showed by teaching friends, his children, grandchildren and their friends how to waterski, jet ski, sail, and taking them boating to cruise around the lake or to Frye’s Leap to jump. His love for sailing, especially Hobie Cats (a catamaran), is how he founded St. Eiboh’s where a group of fellow hobie sailors purchased property on Sebago Lake to have a place to hold regattas. Chet was immensely proud of St. Eiboh’s development and felt grateful to pass it on to his family for years to come.

Off the water, Chets’ other interests included golf, travel across the U.S. and other countries, watching the Patriots, playing pickleball, cross country skiing, downhill skiing (having a condo at Mount Abrams), and when he wasn’t doing all of that, you’d find him reading a book.

Chet embraced retirement, pursuing his passions. Soon after, he and Karin became snowbirds in Sarasota, Fla.

Above all, Chet was a man of remarkable kindness, integrity and generosity. He was devoted to his wife and family which were his greatest joy. He cherished his role of husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Chet touched the lives of many and his memory will forever live on in our hearts.

A special thanks to the dedicated staff of the Enclave of Scarborough for their love and great care this past year.

Chet will be missed by his wife, Karin Adams; his daughters Christine (Thomas) Pequinot of Gorham and Linda (Edward) Forrester of San Diego, Calif.; his five grandchildren, Kelsey (Pete) Wentworth, Tommy (Audrey) Pequinot, Jenna Pequinot, Ryan Forrester, Ava Forrester; and four great-grandchildren; his sister, Marlene Glen of Pottsville, Pa.; his nephews; and cousins; and Darin Adams, who later was like a son to him and Karin.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lindquist Funeral Home, located at 1 Mayberry Lane in Yarmouth.
