FAIRFIELD — A Massachusetts man was killed late Saturday when he was ejected from his car after failing to negotiate a corner on Center Road, leaving the roadway and rolling over, according to police.
Ryan Sargent, 38, of Sterling, Massachusetts, was driving westbound in a 2003 Honda Civic at about 10:15 p.m. after having hit another vehicle on Western Avenue, which turns into Center Road, and leaving the scene, according to Officer Casey J. Dugas, public information officer for the Fairfield Police Department.
“He was alone in the vehicle and it is believed that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash,” Dugas wrote Sunday in an emailed statement. “There were no other injuries due to the rollover and the second operator from the previous hit-and-run was not injured.”
Sargent was unresponsive at the scene, and responding officers immediately began life-saving measures, according to the statement.
Rescue workers arrived at the scene and pronounced Sargent dead, according to Dugas.
The woman who had earlier reported her vehicle had been hit on Western Avenue told police the vehicle had veered into her lane, sideswiped her vehicle and continued westbound in the wrong lane on Western Avenue, according to Dugas.
As police were investigating the crash on Western Avenue, the second crash involving Sargent was reported on Center Road near Box 376, about 2 miles from the reported hit-and-run, according to Dugas.
