A third-place finish wasn’t enough for Lewiston’s Isaiah Harris in the 800-meter semifinals Friday night at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon, as he was unable to advance to Sunday’s final.

Harris was leading the first of three semifinal heats with 100 meters to go, but Josh Hoey and Olympic bronze medalist Clayton Murphy surged past him to take the two automatic qualifying spots. Though Harris held on for third place, his time of 1 minute, 46.21 seconds in what turned out to be the slowest semifinal left him outside the nine qualifiers for the final.

Harris was competing in his third Olympic trials. As a college freshman in 2016, he finished sixth in the 800 final. In 2021, Harris finished fourth in the final, missing the Olympics by one position.
