South Portland junior Arnaud Sioho was named Thursday as Maine’s 2024 boys’ Gatorade track and field Player of the Year. Arnaud won the 110 and 300 hurdles, as well as setting records in capturing the long jump and triple jump at the Class A state meet, helping the Red Riots win their first title since 2002. Sioho went on to finish first in the triple jump at the New England championship meet. Sioho is the fourth South Portland track athlete to win this recognition.

Sioho, a native of Burkina Faso in West Africa, has volunteered locally at the Red Bank Community Center and as a French-language translator and interpreter. He has also donated his time to multiple community service initiatives through his church. Sioho has maintained an ‘A’ average in the classroom.

“Arnaud competes with intensity, passion and joy,” said Red Riots coach David Kahill. “He prepares with tremendous detail through video studies and technique drills and often when he finishes a good race, his focused expression quickly transforms into a brilliant smile.”
