AUGUSTA — When deputies from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of 90-year-old Gerald Marin in his Litchfield home in May, he had been dead for eight days.

That new detail was revealed in a criminal complaint filed at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta by Erin James, a detective with the Major Crimes Unit of the Maine State Police.
The detective wrote that on May 10, Shari Allimah engaged in “conduct that manifested a depraved indifference to the value of human life.”
Allimah is charged with murder in connection with the death of Marin, of Litchfield. At Allimah’s arraignment, her bail was set at $250,000.
Allimah was arrested by Maine State Police on May 24, after the discovery of Marin’s body on Saturday, May 18, at his home at 1724 Hallowell Road in Litchfield. Marin bought the property in 2017, according to town tax records
A deputy from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office had responded to the home at the request of a family member. The deputy found Marin dead inside.
Deputies contacted the Maine State Police Major Crime Unit, which began investigating the circumstances of Marin’s death, and were at the home throughout the weekend.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and determined the cause of death was homicide. The office didn’t immediately respond Tuesday to an inquiry seeking the manner of Marin’s death.
Additional documents in the case, including a police affidavit that should describe more details about the allegations against Allimah, have not yet been filed in court. The next step in the case would be for a Kennebec County grand jury to consider an indictment against Allimah, which would indicate whether there is a enough evidence to proceed with a trial.
Allimah was arrested while being held in the Androscoggin County jail on unrelated theft and burglary charges. She is currently being held at the Kennebec County jail in Augusta.
