Portland police are asking for the public’s help after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Brighton Avenue on Monday evening.

A 36-year-old man, whom police did not identify, laid down his motorcycle at the intersection of Brighton Avenue and St. John Street for an unknown reason, Portland Police Department spokesperson Brad Nadeau said in a statement. A car driving eastbound on Bright Avenue struck the man and fled the scene shortly after 5:10 p.m., Nadeau said.

The man sustained life-threatening injuries and is receiving treatment Maine Medical Center.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it to call 207-874-8532 or 207-874-8575.
