I had the privilege of watching the regional championship softball game between Windham and Cheverus (June 11). I was there because I had worked with the mother of the Cheverus pitcher. I have been to a lot of sporting events in my life, amateur and professional, but I was gifted the most memorable game by two outstanding teams.

I was going to write a letter to Cheverus’ pitcher, but that would have been inappropriate, because I never once saw this as anything but two teams competing. Both pitchers threw exceptional games, but it was always apparent that both teams were working together, in unison, with admirable effort and sportsmanship.

The coaches, the players, the parents and other fans, are all to be commended for producing a classic game of softball that could serve as an example for all teams to follow in the future.
