Calvin H. Whitney

NAPLES, Fla. – Calvin H. Whitney, 98, of Naples, Fla., passed away on June 6, 2024, at his home in Naples, Fla., surrounded by his loving family.

Calvin was born in Lawrence, Mass. to Orrin C. Whitney and Helen A. Holmes on Dec. 4, 1925. He grew up and attended school in Cumberland. He married Helen O’Donnell on Nov. 13, 1947, in Portsmouth, N.H. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1949. He worked as an engineer for IBM for 35 years. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He served in both the Air Force and the Maine Air National Guard.

Upon retirement he became involved in genealogy and was a member of several genealogical societies in New England, New York and Florida. He also became an avid golfer and was a member of the Lakewood Country Club in Naples, Fla. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Naples, Fla.

Calvin is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Helen O’Donnell Whitney; his sister, Virginia Hulbert, his brother, Kendrick Whitney; his father, Orrin Calvin Whitney and his mother, Helen Holmes Whitney.

Calvin is survived by his four children, Gregory (Laurel) Whitney of Salem, N.H., William (Carla) Whitney of La Belle, Fla., Brian (Carol) Whitney of Hubbardston, Mass., and Cynthia (Keith) Anderson of Tivoli, N.Y.; his sister, Dorothy Hanson of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Heather Kaan of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Jessica (Todd) Moody of Amesbury, Mass., Noah (Jason) Coburn of Anderson, Calif., Melissa (Mark) Lucia of Braintree, Mass., Whitney (Jason) Balonick of Tivoli, N.Y., Morgan (Nick) Schaefer of Edmond, Okla., Brianna Whitney of Hubbardston, Mass., Calvin Whitney of Hubbardston, Mass., Seth Anderson of Svenshogen, Sweden; 11 great-grandchildren, Jaemen Coburn of Anderson, Calif, Kendall Coburn of Anderson, Calif., Brennen Coburn of Anderson, Calif., Olivia Moody of Amesbury, Mass., Sadie Schaefer of Edmond, Okla., Ava Lucia of Braintree, Mass., Jackson Moody of Amesbury, Mass., Saylor Schaefer of Edmond, Okla., Charlotte Lucia of Braintree, Mass., Brooke Lucia of Braintree, Mass. and Rhodes Balonick of Tivoli, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family.
