Phyllis Edith (Guptill) Bowman

MONMOUTH – Phyllis Edith (Guptill) Bowman, of Monmouth, died on May 27, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born July 24, 1940 in Portland to Joel E. Guptill and Etta Mae (Meserve) Guptill.

Phyllis worked 40 years for the Portland Public School Bus transportation department, first as a crossing guide and then as an aide assisting and caring for the children on the bus.

She loved life and her family. She liked to camp, play poker, throw horseshoes, bake goodies (mostly Whoopie Pies) for her friends and family. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing. Phyllis was witty and always quick to laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. “Sonny” Bowman, Jr.; siblings Donald Guptill, Nellie McPhail, Eugene Meserve, Beatrice Adams, John Guptill, Betty Mills, Sheirly Talbot; son, David Bowman, Sr.; and granddaughter, Maria Tabone.

Surviving are siblings Dorothy Pinette (Roy) and Robert Guptill (Beverly); her children, Linda Tabone, Joseph Auger (Suzanne), Daniel Bowman, Karen Bowman, Richard Bowman (Kerry), Kimberly Lancaster, Michael Bowman, Dana Bowman (Cindy); 36 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday June 13.
