Bernard Pinette

Bernard “Bernie” Pinette, 83, of Saco, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at home.

He was born in Biddeford on Feb. 11, 1941, a son of Roland and Emily (Boutet) Pinette. Bernie graduated from St. Louis High School, class of 1959. He also graduated from the University of Maine Orono and received a Master’s Degree from the University of New Hampshire.

On Sept. 2, 1963, Bernie married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Poirier. They were blessed to have two children and loved becoming grandparents. Their home was often the center of holiday celebrations and pool parties for countless friends and family.

He was employed as a mechanical engineer by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and later retired in 1998 from supervisor of Shipbuilding in Bath.

Bernie had many interesting hobbies. He was a huge follower of all New England Sports. He was an avid boater and fisherman. Bernie could often be found playing cards with his friends at the Saco Yacht Club. Through the years many people received gifts that Bernie handcrafted in his woodshop. Most of all, Bernie loved his family, friends and helping others. He was always there if anyone needed a hand. He will be sadly missed by many.

Mr. Pinette was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and member and secretary of St. Jean Baptiste de Bienfaisance.

He is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Ruth Pinette; daughter, Lynn Audette and husband Rich; son, Steve Pinette; and grandchildren, Jaelyn Audette Maruca and husband Michael and Nicholas Audette. He is also survived by: siblings, Doris Joki and husband Gene and Brother “Roy” Robert Pinette, sister-in-law Anita Cote; and several nieces and nephews.
