A man from Indian Township was arrested Tuesday in Massachusetts on a charge of gross sexual assault.
Washington County District Attorney Bob Granger said in an email Wednesday that Nakoma Polches, 42, is accused of assaulting a child under 12 years old, a Class A crime.
Multiple law enforcement agencies coordinated Polches’ arrest Monday after learning he was in Mashpee, Massachusetts, the U.S. Marshals Office said.
He was found standing in front of a business and arrested without incident Tuesday, the Mashpee Police Department said in a statement.
He is currently being held in Massachusetts, but will return to Washington County and be prosecuted in Unified Criminal Court in Machias, Granger said.
Granger and Mashpee police wouldn’t answer more questions about the allegations against Polches.
