Rev. John R. “Fr. Jack” d’Anjou, S.J.

PORTLAND – Rev. John R. “Fr. Jack” d’Anjou, S.J., 82, was called to eternal life on May 31, 2024.

Born in Biddeford, on Oct. 13, 1941, Jack entered the Society of Jesus after graduating from Cheverus High School in 1959.

He studied Philosophy and Theology at Weston College before his ordination as a Priest on May 27, 1972. Fr. Jack taught French, Russian, Theology and worked in Campus Ministry at Boston College High School in Dorchester, Mass., from 1972-1981. He then earned an M.S. in Broadcasting from Boston University in 1989 and became Director of the Province Video Communications for the New England Province of the Society of Jesus from 1989-2001. Since 2001, he has served as Parochial Vicar at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Norwich, Conn., and Our Lady of Hope Parish in Portland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert d’Anjou and Genevieve (Mizula) d’Anjou, and his brother, David d’Anjou.

In addition to his Jesuit brothers, Fr Jack is survived by his sister, Stephanie and husband, Tom Curran and his sister-in-law, Marjean d’Anjou. He is also survived by six nieces and a nephew, four grand-nephews, three grand nieces, a great-grandnephew and a great-grandniece.

The Jesuit Community and Jack’s family would like to thank Dr. V. Tchekmedyian, M.D. and the staff of Main Health Oncology; Dr. Gottumukkala, M.D. and staff at Maine Health Radiation Oncology; and Dr. Marino, M.D. and the staff at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence for their excellent care of Fr. Jack during the past year.

Visiting Hours for Fr. Jack will be held from 4-7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 4, at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 5, at St. Pius X Church. A brief prayer service followed by interment will take place at 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Campion Center, 319 Concord Road, Weston, Mass.
