KENNEBUNK – Roy T. Bruton, 92, of Kennebunk, peacefully passed away May 23, 2024. He was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Pensacola, Fla., to Roy and Helen (Carlson) Bruton.

Roy graduated from North Quincy High School and then attended Franklin Technical Institute and Burdett School of Business Administration. He honorably served our country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Alice Tibbetts on Feb. 16, 1957. He worked as a Retail Sales Manager at Claus Gelotte Camera Stores in Quincy and Waltham, Mass., and as a self-employed Manufacturing Sales Rep, covering all of New England, until his retirement in 2019. He was a Lay Leader at Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise, and Heritage United Methodist Church in Braintree, Mass. He was also Vice Commander of American Legion Post 86 and a member of the Braintree Jaycees. Roy made a difference in the lives of the other veterans at Huntington Common Independent Living in Kennebunk, where he resided for the last three years. He spent time with each of them individually sharing stories about their lives.

Roy is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Alice Bruton of Kennebunk; daughter, Sandra St. Jean and her husband, Gerard of Kennebunk; son, Roy Bruton III and his wife, Lisa of Palm City, Fla.; brother, William Bruton and his wife, Sandia of Grand Lake, Colo.; sisters, Helen Suess and her husband, Tom of Tucson, Ariz., and Dorothy Miller of Kingston, Mass.; four grandchildren, Stacey James and her husband, Morgan of Ruskin, Fla., Danielle Stankowski and her husband, Luke of Longmeadow, Mass., Andrew St. Jean of Wakefield, Mass., and Bridget Brown and her husband, Larry of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Alice Jane, Benjamin, Clara, Josie, Simon, and Matthieu; and many nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at Southern Maine Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery and a celebration of Roy’s life will be announced at a later date.
