Janet M. Ross

SACO – Janet Ross, 91, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, in the presence of loving family.

Janet was born on Jan. 7, 1933, to William E. and Helen McDaniels in Needham, Massachusetts, where she was raised. Janet excelled in school. After graduation from Needham High School in 1950, she attended Randolph Macon College in Lynchburg Va., graduating with her BA degree in 1954.

After graduation, Janet began a professional career at Marsh and McLennan in Boston. There she met her husband, Doug Ross, with whom she raised three children, living primarily in Sudbury Massachusetts. After her children were out of the house and on their own, Janet began a second work career, ultimately retiring in Saco Maine.

Janet lived a long, full and fruitful life. She was active to the very end, living independently at her home. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If there was an activity to be attended – dinner, sporting events, birthdays, graduations, etc., etc., Janet was there. She was an avid reader, enjoyed book club and bridge with her friends, and maintained a warm and welcoming home where many enjoyable family meals and occasions took place.

Janet is survived by her children, Doug (Elizabeth) and Laura (Dan): her grandchildren, Doug (Kathy), Michael (Catherine) Kelsey, Melissa (Adan), Jeff (Mckenzie), and Drew (Jessica); her great grandchildren, John Martin and Leo and her brother Bill (Kathe) and their children, Christine and Michael. She is predeceased by her daughter Ellen (John Harrington) and son-in law, John Gelinas.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at Dennett, Craig &Pate Funeral Home at 365 Main Street, Saco. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., with a public service beginning at Noon. A private family burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet’s name to the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society
