Julia A. Larrabee

WINDHAM – Julia A. Larrabee died peacefully in her sleep Sept. 26, 2023 at the age of 95.

She was born in South Windham on Oct. 31, 1927.

Julia began working in her teenage years and worked all the way through the mid ’80s off and on in different types of jobs at places including a convenience store in south Windham, S.D Warren, and GTE Sylvania. Family was quite important to her which made it easy for her to leave her jobs to volunteer at her youngest son’s school and spend years traveling around the world for her husband’s work. From 1974-1979 they lived in Iran for 5 ½ years, leaving just before a revolution. Upon her return she began working as a secretary at Depot Energy, which was Tally’s (her brother-in-law) company.

She enjoyed many hobbies including cooking, baking, knitting and crocheting. Her most treasured job/hobby was caring for her children and grandchildren. She made many wonderful memories with her family during the holiday’s making Christmas cookies, candies, fudge and pies. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to play her electric organ, which is now being played by her great-grandchildren.

For many years she took pride in her garden and would grow vegetables for her family and local families in need. She would donate vegetables and her baked goods to the local church to help support her community. If you were around her much, you probably heard her favorite saying, “If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.” Her oldest granddaughter practices this often.

Julia is survived by her son, Donald Larrabee Jr.; her brother, John Edward Pecoraro, her sister-in-law, Mary Pecoraro (Gus); her grandchildren, Nathan Fifield, Anna (Jordan) Johnson, Kayla (Phil) Abbott, Agostino “AJ” Samson, Sara (Drew) Williston, Rolanda (John) Stevens, Amanda (David) Olivieri, Maria Commoss; and great-grandchildren, Julia and JD Johnson, Jackson, Claire, and Tucker Stevens and Sophia and Mia Olivieri; as well as her nieces Angel, Susan, Carmen, Carmelle and Ann Beth and nephews Geno, Christopher, Johnny, Joe, Mike, Joseph, Frank and Will.

Julia was predeceased by her son, Agostino (Gus) Samson; husband, Donald Larrabee; her half-sisters Mary Maglione and Lena Camusi, her half-brothers Tony, Eugene and Generean, her sister, Carmella (Minola) Laskey, her brothers Joseph and Agostino (Gus); and her nephew, Philip.

A wake will be held on Friday Oct. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Saturday Oct. 21. Viewing will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a service at 12 p.m. All services will be held at Dolby Funeral Chapel 434 River Rd. Windham.
