American Airlines will offer nonstop service from Portland International Jetport to New York’s LaGuardia Airport starting next June, jetport officials announced Thursday.
The new service will offer two flights daily and be the sixth nonstop destination that the airline offers from the jetport. Tickets will go on sale Monday for morning and afternoon flights starting June 5, airport officials said in a prepared statement.
“American is thrilled to offer more access for travelers to see all that Portland has to offer while connecting residents with convenient access to our comprehensive global network,” said Joe Sottile, the airline’s director of domestic network planning.
American is the third of eight airlines operating out of the jetport to serve LaGuardia, including Delta and JetBlue, said Paul Bradbury, airport director. New York is the jetport’s largest market, he said.
“We know this new service will be a welcome addition to many of our American Airlines frequent travelers and will provide everyone with two additional daily opportunities to get to New York,” Bradbury said.
The tentative morning flight schedule shows American departing LaGuardia at 9:25 a.m. and arriving in Portland at 10:48 a.m. The return flight would depart Portland at 11:20 a.m. and arrive at LaGuardia at 12:55 p.m.
The afternoon flights would depart LaGuardia at 3:29 p.m. and arrive at Portland at 4:52 p.m., then depart Portland at 5:40 p.m. and arrive at LaGuardia at 7:15 p.m. Flight times are subject to change.
Passengers traveling through Maine’s largest airport have increased steadily since the pandemic eased, including the recent summer months of June, July, and August, when total passenger numbers grew nearly 15 percent, from 692,745 in 2022 to 795,894 in 2023, according to jetport data.
Other airlines operating at the jetport are Breeze, Frontier, Southwest, Sun Country, and United.
