A fire late Friday night damaged an Old Port building that houses two restaurants on the ground floor and offices above.
According to a press release from the Portland Fire Department, crews responded at 10:20 p.m. to an alarm for a building fire at 86 Exchange St., which houses The Grill Room & Bar and Tandoor.
Upon arrival, firefighters could see flames coming from the roof area of the rear of the building. Crews got the fire under control by 10:56 p.m. and cleared the scene shortly after midnight.
The fire was considered accidental, originating from cooking activities in one of the restaurants, and extended into the building’s ventilation system. No one was injured.
The building was equipped with both a working alarm system and sprinklers, Portland Fire officials said.
A post on the Grill Room & Bar Facebook page Saturday morning read: “Unfortunately we will be closed tonight.”
