CALAIS – Karen Ann (Dodge) Durrell, 78, of Calais, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Augusta, Ga. on April 20, 2023. Karen was born in Portland on April 12, 1945.

Karen grew up in Freeport and graduated from Freeport High School in 1963. She married her husband, Phillip Reed Durrell, in 1965. She had three children, Phillip Reed, Howard Arthur, and Raymond Allen.

Karen loved all things musical. She learned to play the piano at a young age and played for churches throughout her life. She played and led the choir at the Church of the Open Bible in Alexander for over 21 years. She loved gospel music especially the Cathedral Quartet.

Karen was predeceased by her parents, Forest and Mable Dodge; brother, Forest Raymond Dodge, Jr.; and two sons, Phillip Reed and Raymond Allan.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip, of nearly 58 years; her son, Howard Arthur (Danielle) Durrell; sister, Laurel (Kenny) Merrill, brothers Alan (Donna) Dodge and Carl (Marilyn) Dodge, sister-in-law, Deborah (James) Rideout; and six grandchildren, Steven Phillip, Jack Darius, Logan Marius, Phillip David, Gabriel Hunter and Samuel James.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Karen and her life on Saturday, April 29 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 402 Aumond Rd., Augusta, Ga. at 11 a.m.
