A four-vehicle crash in Casco severely injured one driver and sent two others to a hospital after a pickup truck crossed the centerline and hit three oncoming cars, closing Roosevelt Trail for hours.
The crash occurred in the area of Watkins Flats at about 1:25 p.m. when 69-year-old Craig Aderman’s 2015 Ford F-150 pickup crossed into oncoming traffic, said Cumberland County Sheriff Capt. Kerry Joyce.
Aderman’s truck struck three vehicles and he suffered minor injuries. One driver, Eric Farstad, 49, of Naples, was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland with life-threatening injuries, Joyce said.
Sadie Tirrell, 18, also of Naples, was transported to the hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries. Tirrell’s car was forced off the road into a ditch where it rolled over, causing significant damage.
The driver of a black Jeep was unharmed.
Farstad had to be extracted from his Chrysler sedan, which had considerable damage, Joyce said.
The crash is under investigation by the sheriff’s office reconstruction team and the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, Joyce said. The road was closed until shortly after 4 p.m.
